Infertility Clinic at Sussex Medical Chambers |
|
Detailed consultation with infertile couples and women with any gynaecological complaints. New appointments are for 45 minutes and would include ultrasound scan if necessary. Other investigations and treatments are initiated at the same visit.
| Ovulation Induction and Follicle Tracking: |
This is treatment for women who are infertile because of failure of ovulation. It may also be helpful in women with unexplained infertility. Drugs are given to stimulate the development and release of eggs from the ovary, and the response to treatment is monitored by ultrasound scans. |
| Intrauterine Insemination: |
Usually involves ovulation induction and follicle tracking. At the time of ovulation prepared sperm is inserted into the cavity of the womb. This may be indicated in couples with unexplained infertility or mildly reduced sperm count or mild endometriosis. The pregnancy rate with this procedure is 10 – 17%. The entire treatment takes place at the SMC. |
| Satellite IVF: |
In-vitro fertilization (test tube baby) involves the stimulation of the ovary to produce a number of mature eggs that are introduced to the sperm of the partner in the laboratory (test tube) to allow fertilization to occur. It is necessary if the fallopian tubes are blocked, sperm function is impaired or in some cases of unexplained infertility. The satellite service is linked to The London Bridge Fertility, Gynaecology and Genetics (The Bridge) Centre one of the UK’s leading fertility centres. The treatment is monitored at the SMC at no extra cost, removing the inconvenience of repeated travel to London.
