Reflexology

What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a form of complementary medicine that studies the relationship of the reflex points of the feet (hands and ears) to the rest of the body. The formation of this ‘body map’, linking the reflex points to body areas, enables the practitioner to locate problematic imbalances or disorders and treat accordingly.

Advanced Reflexology involves stimulating meridian acupressure points to further aid the re-balancing effect of the treatment.

By stimulating these points on the feet (hands and ears) using gentle thumb pressures and hand movements, all areas of the body can be treated, addressing not only prevailing symptoms but also underlying, chronic conditions.

How can Reflexology help me?

Reflexology has been used as a proven, effective, drug-free therapy for thousands of years. Although not claiming to ‘cure-all’, its use has effectively and successfully treated a wide number of disorders and conditions:

bullet Menopausal symptoms
bullet Premenstrual Syndrome
bullet Stress/Anxiety
bullet Sinus problems
bullet Insomnia
bullet Digestive disorders
bullet Hormonal imbalances
bullet Circulatory conditions
bullet Migraine/headache
bullet Post-operative pain/nausea
bullet Sciatica

Who can benefit from Reflexology?

Reflexology is suitable for all ages and can bring relief from a wide range of acute and chronic conditions. For maximum therapeutic benefit, a course of treatments is recommended.

You will find regular Reflexology treatments improve your quality of sleep, boost your immunity and help maintain energy levels. Problematic health issues seem far less troublesome and more controllable. The positive effects of Reflexology can be further improved with a healthy diet and regular exercise.

Treatment sessions

The start of your session begins with a relaxing, warm, bubbly foot spa, releasing the day’s tension.

On your first visit for a treatment, you will be invited to talk through a general health, lifestyle and medical history questionnaire and voice any questions you may have in mind.

Moving onto the comfortable couch, the Reflexology and massage begin, working out residual tension, stimulating and balancing the body systems. Your first session lasts around 1 hour 45 minutes providing a thorough de-stress and re-balance. Subsequent sessions normally last just over an hour.

Reflexology in Family Planning, Pregnancy and Postnatal Period

Maternity Reflexology is especially designed to help support women planning a family, during pregnancy, easing the post-natal period.

During your pregnancy, your body goes through significant changes affecting the emotional, hormonal and physiological balance of your body. Reflexology helps to alleviate or prevent discomfort arising from problematic imbalances. By restoring the body’s equilibrium, your pregnancy becomes a more enjoyable and memorable experience.

How can Maternity Reflexology help me?

Pre-conception

Reflexology can be used successfully to aid conception and has an excellent reputation in helping couples overcome fertility challenges by balancing all the body systems, regulating cycles and reducing stress and tension, thus creating the best environment for the anticipated baby. When your body is in this balanced, relaxed state, the conditions are ideal for conception.

Pregnancy

Reflexology has shown to be both safe and effective in treating the following conditions and in maintaining balance during the rapidly changing experience of pregnancy:

Increased energy levels
General relaxation
Relief from stress and anxiety
High blood pressure
Nausea and vomiting
Reduce heartburn

Ligament and groin pain

Relieve backache
Symphysis pubis dysfunction
Sciatica
Reduce swelling
Constipation
Cystitis
Insomnia and sleep problems
Preparation for labour

Reflexology is safe and effective during pregnancy, however, it is not recommended if there is a history of: Premature labour, Severe hypertension, Placenta previa, or Recent vaginal bleeding.

If you suspect any problems in your pregnancy it is important to contact your doctor or midwife.

Postnatal Period

Reflexology can also help to alleviate postnatal problems including:

Postnatal depression
Stress and anxiety problems
Inadequate lactation
Constipation
Backache

Sleep problems

Engorged breasts
Urine retention
Increase in energy levels

Many Midwives, along with current research, support the use of Maternity Reflexology as a safe and effective therapy. Regular monthly or fortnightly treatments offer the best results.

Make your pregnancy a more satisfying and enjoyable experience!
