About Sussex Medical Chambers

Our Radiology & Imaging department undertakes a wide range of radiology and imaging investigations: scans, Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine, XRays, vascular Doppler studies, and DEXA scan.

With a number of Consultant Radiologists and Radiographers we now offer a wide range of X-rays and scanning diagnostic tests. A specialist Antenatal Radiologist offers ovarian, pelvic, obstetric, nuchal and foetal scanning. Dr's Richard Burwood, Tim Doyle & Gunnar Kullman undertake ultrasonography and x ray of almost any part: abdomen, liver, gallstones, kidney stones, IVU, IVP, bone scan, thyroid, hip, knee, back, testes, joint, spine, chest Xray, echo, DMSA, MIBI, CXR, pre-op & post-op joint replacement and fracture X-Rays.

DVT screening is also available by ultrasound. Mammography is not yet available on site but patients are referred on when a mammogram is required.

MRI scans for high resolution digital imaging of the brain, spine and other areas in the near future by amalgamation with another Company.

All Doctors and Consultants hold substantive NHS posts mainly within the Brighton & Hove University Hospitals Trust, Worthing & Southlands Hospital NHS Trust or within the Brighton & Hove City PCT ( BHCPCT ). Around 80% are currently working locally at The Royal Sussex County Hospital RSCH, The Royal Alexandra Hospital for Children, Southlands Hospital Worthing, The Sussex Eye Hospital, Hove Polyclinic, Brighton General Hospital and The Horder Centre for Arthritis.

Should it be necessary, many also hold practising privileges at various private hospitals in East and West Sussex such as McIndoe Surgical Centre East Grinstead, BUPA Gatwick Park Hospital, The Sussex Nuffield Hospital Woodingdean, Goring Hall Hospital Worthing, BMI Esperance Private Hospital Eastbourne, King George VI Hospital Midhurst.

Consultants visiting from London also operate from places such as Guys Hospital London, Kings College Hospital London, Mayday Hospital Croydon, The European Scanning Centre London, The London Hernia Centre, Harley Street and Wimpole Street. Some Consultants have been closely involved in setting up the new Brighton and Sussex Medical School at The University of Sussex.

A Private Sexual Health Clinic (GUM STD GU Clinic) opened in Brighton at Sussex Medical Chambers in Feb 2005. Staffed by Genitourinary Consultants and Sexual Health Advisers from The Claude Nicol Centre, The Oscar Wilde Clinic and The Elton John Unit for HIV the facilities offer an unhurried and relaxing environment for male and female clientele worried about sexually transmitted disease or infection. Highly confidential, genito-urinary and STI advice is now available for the first time in Brighton in a private clinic.

This caters particularly well for the LGBT (Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender) community. With the Manor Laboratory on site, many results are available within the hour and treatment can be started immediately. For the diagnosis, treatment and management of NSU, Chlamydia, TV, syphilis, Herpes, LGV, Candida, Vaginitis, Genital Warts, HIV, AIDS, Gonorrhoea, Trichomonas. The Clinic can also help with PEP (Post Exposure Prophylaxis for HIV), pregnancy, cervical smears PAP, IUCD, Mirena System, Coils, Levonelle and the morning after pill.

The GP Practice at Sussex Medical Chambers has an extensive range of pre-employment and other health screening medicals and checkups for employers, human resource depts and companies in Brighton & Sussex.

We have fixed price healthscreens for Taxi medicals, HGV and PSV medicals, Insurance Medicals, Bus Coach and Train Driver Medicals, all DVLC Medicals, Army, Police and Fire Medicals, Social Services Medicals, Emigration Medicals, Australia and New Zealand Emmigration / Immigration Visa Medicals, Diving, Boxing and Aviation Medicals and are able to offer an occupational medicine and health service assessment and check-up to all employers.

We carry out visits to all hotels and B&B for visitors including The Grand Hotel Brighton, The Old Ship Hotel and all Brighton business premises, including Estate Agents, Solicitors, food handling for Restaurants in Brighton etc. A service for solicitors and lawyers in Brighton includes DNA Paternity testing, Medicolegal examinations & reports and minor injury check up. Visits are undertaken to nursing homes and rest homes.

The catchment area for the GP Surgery and Health Centre includes the whole of East and West Sussex, Mid Sussex, Hampshire and Surrey. Whilst most clients are from Brighton, Hove, Lewes, Seaford, Shoreham and Worthing, our catchment area extends to Crawley, Haywards Heath and BAA Gatwick Airport to the North, Littlehampton and Portsmouth to the west and Eastbourne, Hastings & Newhaven to the east.

Cosmetic Facilities: A range of Plastic Surgeons, including Mr Lucian Ion and Aesthetic Practitioners now consult at Sussex Medical Chambers. They offer Esthetic and Cosmetic surgery and procedures such as lesion excision, facelift, breast reduction and augmentation, liposuction, ear pinning, tattoo removal, skin grafts etc. Cosmetic procedures available include Botox, Botulinum Toxin, Restylane and treatments for facial lines and wrinkles, cellulite, superficial varicose veins, electrolysis, laser treatment for ageing skin and acne rosacea.

A wide range of Counsellors and Therapists are now consulting at The Chambers. Now available is counselling, coaching, sexology, psychosexual counselling, relationship and bereavement counselling.

Our sexologist and sex therapist specialise in impotency, erectile dysfunction, impotence, male menopause, androgen and andropause, premature ejaculation, sex therapy, testosterone and help for acceptance for transsexuals, transvestites, lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender clients. The Manor Laboratory is situated within Sussex Medical Chambers allowing fast access to blood tests, investigations and analysis of specimens.
